Why It Really Matters, Who We Elect?
How often have we all heard, someone claims, their reason, for not bothering to vote, is, their belief, it either doesn't make any difference (because they're all the same) or, his vote doesn't count/ matter? The only way, your vote won't count, is if you fail to cast it! Rather than proceeding, in an apathetic matter, wouldn't it make more sense, to get more involved, so there are better candidates, to choose from? If there are components of our voting process, which appears to hinder, the concept of, one - vote, one - man, join with others, to fix it!
In the United States, most consider voting a right, but, until/ unless, voters also consider it, their solemn obligation, we will continue witnessing, the diminishing of our great system, and society! The events of the past few years should convince individuals, regardless of their personal political preferences, it often makes an immediate difference, who is elected, and, generally, a longer-term one, also! With that in mind, this article will attempt to briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, a few important differences, which are often dependent upon, who we elect.
1. Economic:
A realistic consideration of economic matters, is often, the most challenging, for many, who are looking, from the outside. While certain moves may, immediately, or in the shorter - term, appear to have certain positives, the real value (or lack) comes from the longer-term perspective, analysis, and impacts. When the so-called, tax reform legislation was passed, at the end of 2017, President Trump, and his Republican cronies, proclaimed, this was going to predominantly benefit, the middle - class.
However, anyone, taking a deeper look, realizes, Trickle Down Economics, historically, has never effectively worked, to the benefit of most Americans. This legislation appears to be extremely beneficial to the largest corporations, and the wealthiest one percent, while, either, only slightly benefiting others, doing nothing at all, or, in the so-called, high SALT states, has hurt! This occurred, because, we elected officials, who, appear to care more for their personal/ political agenda, and self - interest, instead of the common good, and securing the finest possible future!
2. Women's Rights:
Whether it's about a Women's Right to Choose, or wage/ pay equality, it is obvious, the 2016 election, had a dramatic impact on both the present, as well the future, when it comes to protecting and enhancing women's rights! From the rhetoric to the votes, to court appointments, it's obvious, one's vote matters!
3. Foreign Policy:
Whether one supports this President, or not, most would agree, the foreign policy and approaches of President Donald Trump, are often, considerably different from his predecessors! The very essence of what the United States, represents, and stands for, is under potential attack. Mr. Trump appears to look at everything, in the foreign arena, predominantly through his perceived lens, of whether we make money on it, while often appearing, to proceed, without demanding human rights policies, etc.
4. The Wall:
Although most experts state Trump's Southern Wall, is, ineffective, inefficient, and extremely expensive, it appears to be, used by this President, as a symbol, to his core supporters, with the intent of making political/ personal gains!
5. The Courts:
Issues, such as Roe v Wade, civil rights, human rights, women's policies, etc, are often determined, by the courts. Because, in early 2016, Republicans controlled the Senate, President Obama's choice of a man (considered by most, as extremely qualified), Merrick Garland, they would not even consider taking a vote. President Trump has nominated two, far more conservative men, like Supreme Court nominees. and the longer-term impacts and ramifications, on a wide-ranging number of issues, may have dramatic impacts, etc.
6. Other than Presidential elections:
It's not only, who we elect, President, which makes a difference. Consider, how, because in 2018, New York States, for the first time in many decades, elected a Democratic Senate and Legislature, to serve alongside a Democratic Governor Cuomo, they have been able to make significant changes, considered, essential to protecting certain rights, regardless of what the federal government does. Imagine, if both the House, and the Senate, became controlled by the Democrats, the essential difference, possible, in our United States' policies.
It really does matter, who you vote for. Wake up, America, and demand more, from your elected officials, and elect individuals, whose ideas, strategies, actions, and solutions, were more important than their rhetoric, empty promises, and personal/ political agenda, and self - interest!
